International Friendly line-ups: Italy vs. Turkey

Italy test out Riccardo Orsolini, Federico Chiesa and Mateo Retegui in a pre-EURO 2024 friendly against Hakan Calhanoglu and Kenan Yildiz’s Turkey.

It kicks off at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Azzurri have another friendly lined up against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday evening.

Coach Luciano Spalletti starts with a 4-2-3-1 formation, which could transform into a 3-4-2-1.

His choices have been limited by injuries to Francesco Acerbi, Giorgio Scalvini, Nicolò Zaniolo and Destiny Udogie.

Gianluca Scamacca only joined up with the squad after Atalanta’s final game of the season on Sunday, so Retegui gets the centre-forward role this evening, supported by Orsolini, Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Nicolò Barella and Ivan Provedel are also in the stands.

Turkey are coached by Vincenzo Montella and have several familiar faces to Serie A followers, including Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and Juventus teenage talent Kenan Yildiz.

Roma full-back Zeki Celik and ex-Juventus defender Merih Demiral are also present.

Montella is facing pressure after the most recent friendly ended in a 6-1 defeat to Austria in March.

They are in a EURO 2024 group with Portugal, the Czech Republic and Georgia.

Turkey have never beaten Italy, managing three draws and nine defeats.
