Inter legend Beppe Bergomi believes his former club would be making a mistake in buying Joao Cancelo outright for €35m.
Cancelo has grown into Inter’s right-back berth after an injury-hit start to his career at San Siro, but Bergomi – an ex-Nerazzurri defender himself – urged his side to focus on other players and not spend so much on the Valencia loanee.
“Cancelo? I wouldn’t exercise the option to buy him,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“He’s a good full-back, but that amount could be better spent on other players.
“He was compared to Maicon, but Maicon’s Inter relied on him for his running, physicality, involvement and character: he was a pillar.
“Cancelo is still sloppy when defending one-on-one, plus he’s too risky with his play. I’m not saying he’s not a good player, but I wouldn’t keep him.”
