Marcus Thuram has attracted attention from many clubs in Italy, Spain and England, as Borussia Monchengladbach confirm ‘Inter wanted him two years ago.’

The son of former Parma and Juventus defender Lilian Thuram plays in various attacking roles and his contract with the German side is due to expire in June 2023.

This makes him hot property on the transfer market for January, but also a possibility as a free agent next summer.

“He is having a fantastic season with many goals,” Borussia Monchengladbach assistant manager Oliver Neuville told Radio Sportiva.

“He had a lot of injury problems last term, but still has a contract until the end of the season. I think it’s unlikely he will remain at Gladbach, because if he continues scoring like this, there will certainly be offers from Italy, Spain and England.

“We need to be realistic about his prospects with us, especially now he has been called up by France for the World Cup. The odds on Thuram signing a new contract are not good.”

Bayern Munich are emerging as the favourites for the 25-year-old, although Inter have been working on it for perhaps longer than anyone.

“I would certainly advise that Serie A players invest in Thuram. Inter wanted him two years ago, he can play as a centre-forward or on either flank, has enormous qualities and would do well in Italy.”

Thuram has found the net 13 times in 17 competitive games for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, also contributing four assists for his teammates.

Other Italian clubs known to be interested include Milan, Roma and Juventus.

Because Lilian Thuram was playing in Italy at the time, Marcus Thuram was born in Parma in August 1997.
