Inter face an unexpected battle for Tomas Palacios, who turned down a lucrative Saudi Pro League move and is in a tug-of-war between clubs that could double his price-tag.

They had hoped to secure the 21-year-old centre-back for a relatively small fee of €5m, confident that RB Leipzig were the only main contenders.

However, the situation is proving a little more complicated with reports swirling around today.

Focus intensifying on Palacios

According to Calciomercato.it, the player has turned down a lucrative proposal from the Saudi Pro League because he wants the next step of his career to be in Europe.

However, that has now practically doubled the asking price to €9m plus €3m in add-ons and a percentage of the sell-on fee.

Bundesliga sides, presumably RB Leipzig, are close to that with €10m in total.

Another problem is the complicated way that players in Argentina can be owned by multiple clubs or agencies.

Palacios is a product of the Talleres youth academy and currently on loan at Independiente Rivadavia, but they are still discussing a buy-out clause.

Sportitalia suggest that Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti is personally in talks with Talleres to ensure they retain control.
