The Inter ultras have announced that the Curva Nord will band together under one banner, with multiple groups all joining together.

Multiple groups call the Curva Nord of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza home, including the oldest ultra outfit in Italy, Boys, who were founded in 1969. They’ve decided to band together with other groups, namely Brianza, Irriducibili and Viking, in an attempt to find unity following the murder of ultra leader Vittorio Boiocchi back in October.

The Inter ultras will now be united under a single banner, which could spread over 100 meters in San Siro, called ‘Curva Nord Milano 1969’, Corriere della Sera details.

Below is the Intra ultras statement in full:

“The beginning of a new era, a single flag that will represent all of us and our identity from the very beginning: Curva Nord Milano 1969’. Starting from the home match with Napoli, all the groups of the first barrier will stand behind that banner.

“Each group will remain in its ‘place’ but under one emblem. It is time to look to the future and start again, also because the past of those who wrote pages of history of the Nord will always be remembered and nothing will be forgotten.

“This change comes after long reflections in this month and a half without a season, where all groups that are part of the Nord have joined for a common goal: change that will have to weld our ranks, involve as many people as possible in this ‘new’ course.

“The time of misunderstandings, let’s put it behind us, let our fighting spirit be an inspiration to all Curva Nord goers including even the more moderate and sceptical ones.

“The time for talk is over, we need desire, courage, passion and a lot of love for Inter to make our beloved Curva Nord shine again. United, proud and never tame, forward Curva Nord!”

Ultra support is a divisive aspect of fan culture in Italy, with many being fans of their passionate support and impressive choreographies, whilst others suggest that they’re often involved in illicit or criminal behaviour.

Inter ultras made headlines earlier this season after reportedly forcing everyday fans to join their walkout during a Serie A clash with Sampdoria.

I think they mean it in general. And that’s not true.
