Inter CEO Beppe Marotta wants to sit down with Lautaro Martinez and ‘make him understand’ that he will be better off staying at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri director spoke about the upcoming operations and the deals already done, revealing the move to Paris Saint-Germain for former captain Mauro Icardi had pleased all parties involved.

“Icardi was no longer part of our project,” Marotta told Corriere dello Sport. “We had to accommodate him in a satisfying way for him and us, and we did. The end was absolutely pleasant.

Marotta has claimed the big money deals will disappear after the COVID-19 emergency.

“Don’t expect operations like Neymar, where you spend €500m including transfers and salaries. Those situations are utopian today.”

But the rumours regarding a move for Lautaro this summer won’t go away and Marotta only pointed at the €111m release clause in his current deal at San Siro.

“Lautaro represents an important point of reference for the Inter team, we don’t need to sell him,” he added. “There’s a €111m release clause that expires on July 7. That’s the only tool to reach a sale.

“The player can wait and develop with Inter. We will meet him, we must make him understand that such a possibility can re-occur in the future, when he is more ready.”

The CEO added that the big names arriving at Inter has made them ‘appeal’ to big players like Atletico Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, who has been linked with the Nerazzurri in recent weeks.

“We have added some important pieces, the coach and some players. [Christian] Eriksen came in January as well.

“Inter now have a great visibility and charm. We have the appeal of the best years.”

But Christian Eriksen struggled to make an immediate impact after his move from Tottenham Hotspur in January.

“There’s no question, he’s a great player. Conte will find the right place for him.”

Some other questions are left unanswered, for returning stars like Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic, who face an uncertain future. But Marotta could confirm that Stefano Sensi is in Conte’s plans.

“We have an obligation. We can’t depreciate the value of our players. We evaluate everything with the coach. We want to keep Sensi.”
