Inter made smart investments in the January transfer window, securing the services of Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo and Beppe Marotta once again proved to be the best director in Serie A.
The Serie A leaders do not seem to be missing the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Achfraf Haikimi, who left the Nerazzurri in the summer.
They have the most prolific attack in Serie A with 53 goals scored in 22 games and look to the second part of the campaign with optimism.
Their first match after the break is a derby clash against Milan on Saturday. Gosens won’t be available as he is still recovering from a thigh injury.
It will take at least another month to see the Germany international in action, but there are no doubts about his quality.
Gosens has been one of the best left-backs in Serie A over the last few years and Marotta made an absolute bargain signing him for just €27m, which is the maximum fee Inter will pay considering both the loan fee and the option to buy in 2023.
Hakimi, Gosens and Theo Hernandez are the only Serie A defenders to have contributed to nine goals in the opening 21 league games over the last 15 years.
This is another incredible piece of business completed by Marotta, who sold Hakimi to PSG for €71m and signed Gosens and Denzel Dumfries (in the summer) for a combined €34m fee.
Gosens’ signing means Inter can look to Ivan Perisic’s contract extension with less pressure. The Croat sees his current deal expire in the summer and the two parties are nowhere close to reaching an agreement.
Contrary to Gosens, Caicedo will be eligible to play against Milan and will likely start on the bench.
The former Lazio striker will replace Joaquin Correa, who has been ruled out for a month.
Caicedo had a disappointing spell at Genoa in the first part of the campaign, but Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will know precisely how to get the best out of him during his month-loan at San Siro.
The Nerazzurri will also announce the signing of Andre Onana as a free agent from Ajax over the next few days.
The Cameroon international will move to the Stadio Meazza at the end of the season, but Samir Handanovic will likely extend his contract until 2023 so he can help the newcomer to settle in at the club.
Inter also used the January transfer window to open talks with Sassuolo for Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi, two of Italy’s most exciting prospects and the Nerazzurri are now in pole position to secure their services in the summer.
Marotta has reinforced the team and worked for the club’s long-term future. Once again, another spectacular transfer window led by the 64-year-old.
In few years I guess Marotta will fly to the other side of Milan. He will complete a full circle then, reinforcing all the three biggest clubs in Italy
@Kunz: Marotta already confirmed that Inter is his last club that he will manage.
He is clearly aiming for footballing organizations, potentially saving Calcio`s face! Because right now Italian footbal is mislead by clowns.
