Former Inter stopper Riccardo Ferri has urged the club to keep a hold of Andrea Ranocchia – even if they complete a deal for Matias Silvestre.

The Italian had a problematic 2011-12 campaign where form and fitness restricted him to just 12 Serie A games. He subsequently missed out on a place at Euro 2012.

Ranocchia has been linked with a summer exit, but the Italia ’90 centre-back believes he should remain at San Siro.

“To be honest, I wouldn’t sell him,” Ferri stated. “He is a player who can still make some massive improvements.”

Meanwhile, Ferri has given the thumbs up to the club’s pursuit of Palermo’s Argentine stopper Silvestre.

“He is certainly a good defender and he would be a valid addition to the squad,” Ferri continued. “However, I expect a little bit more from Inter in the market.”

Silvestre, formerly of Catania, has been targeted given the imminent departure of Brazilian veteran Lucio.
