Sao Paulo have warned Inter that their transfer target Lucas “is not for sale this year,” but are open to negotiations for Diego Forlan.

There have long been reports that the Nerazzurri are interested in Brazilian international midfielder Lucas Moura.

“It is true there was contact with Inter in January, but our response was negative,” Sao Paulo director Marco Aurelio Cunha told FCInterNews.it.

“We can certainly afford to keep him and do not need to sell our players to raise funds. Lucas is not for sale this year, as Sao Paulo intend to keep him for at least another two seasons.

“The lad really wants to play in the Olympics too. It is difficult to calculate his price-tag, as last year we received an offer from Russia for €25m, but for various reasons it did not go through.

“In any case, the player wants to stay and win with this jersey.”

The Sao Paulo director ruled out a bid for Inter defender Lucio due to his wage demands, but was more enthusiastic about Forlan’s future.

“I heard that Atletico Mineiro are interested in Forlan, but it seems unlikely to me that he would go there, as they haven’t won in a long time and are not going through a good run.

“I also personally know Forlan’s father and am aware Diego would prefer to play in a big city like Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. Of course, the doors of Sao Paulo are always open for him.”
