According to reports in Italy, Inter have already been informed that their midfield star Nicolò Barella will be given a two-match ban in the Champions League, missing both games against Liverpool.

The Italy international received a straight red card in the last Champions League group stage game against Real Madrid in December.

Barella was punished after taking a swing at Madrid defender Militao from the floor and against the back of his knee.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Inter midfielder will be given a two-match ban, missing both games against Liverpool in the Round of 16.

The news is not official yet, but according to Calciomercato.com, UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary committee met on Tuesday, ruling Barella’s two-match ban.

Inter have already been informed and have reportedly decided not to appeal the decision.

Back in December, Barella apologised to Militao and his teammates, hoping that UEFA would only give him a one-match suspension, allowing him to play the second leg at Anfield Road on March 8.

The opening tie between the Nerazzurri and the Reds is scheduled for February 16 at San Siro.
