Simone Inzaghi is expected to give the nod to Andre Onana for Inter’s Champions League clash against Viktoria Plzen, despite Samir Handanovic’s heroics against Torino on the weekend.

The 38-year-old Slovenian shot stopper was the best player on the pitch in the Nerazzurri’s edgy 1-0 win over the Granata on Saturday, making seven saves across the 90 minutes to guarantee a clean sheet for Inzaghi’s side. Handanovic has started every Serie A game so far this campaign but did not feature in the Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, despite Handanovic’s excellent performance against Torino on the weekend, Inzaghi again seems set to start Onana in their upcoming Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen.

The 26-year-old Cameroonian shot stopper had a good game against Bayern in their 2-0 defeat, making 10 saves and only conceding two goals despite facing an xG of 3.51.

Inzaghi is clearly trying to balance how much each goalkeeper plays this season, but this could become problematic later in the campaign, similar to how things got a little tense between goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas at Paris Saint-Germain last campaign.

  1. heroics?

Big respect to Samir for his longevity and consistency, but every one of his saves vs Torino were rudimentary saves. They all all either straight at him or within comfortable range. If he had conceded from any of those shots, they’d have been errors. Heroics? Silly sensationalism as per usual.
