Javier Zanetti maintains Inter’s target this season is Europe “but if something more comes we’ll be happy”.

The Nerazzurri are being talked of as potential Scudetto winners after four wins from their opening four games, but the vice-President doesn’t want to let expectations get out of hand.

“Returning to Europe is still the thing which most interests us,” Zanetti told Sky.

“But if something more comes then we’ll be happy. We’ve started well, but the League is long and very difficult. We have the opportunity to get to the end and be contenders.

“The table looks good, but there will be difficult times and we have to show we’re ready. This team is very different from the one [Jose] Mourinho had, there are a lot of new players, and lads who understand what it means to wear this shirt.

“I really like Miranda, but also [Jeison] Murillo, [Gary] Medel in defence and Felipe Melo will do well for us.

“Ranocchia? I fell sorry for Andrea, he’s a good lad and I’m sure he’ll be back. He has to prove his worth, he should feel like a captain. Everyone is a captain, and the group is the most important thing.

“That’s the only way we can fight and dream big.”
