Inter are said to be targeting Cruzeiro midfielder Nilton or Manchester City’s Javi Garcia this summer.
Sky Sport Italia claim Javi Garcia could be convinced to leave the Citizens in order to be given more regular playing time.
He has just eight Premier League starts this term and would fit tactically into Walter Mazzarri’s system.
The 27-year-old Spain international had already been linked with a possible move to Napoli and his price-tag is approximately £14m (€16m).
He only joined from Benfica in August 2012 and is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy.
Reports emerged in the Brazilian media suggesting a deal is practically done to bring Nilton to San Siro.
He’ll turn 27 later this month and scored seven goals in 30 appearances for Cruzeiro last season.
There is believed to be a €5.5m buy-out clause in his contract, but Inter face competition from the likes of Valencia, Roma, Milan and Lille.
“Nilton is on the radar of the top European clubs, which is normal considering he won the Brazilian League and was voted one of the best players of last season,” said agent Wagner Ribeiro.
“There is interest, but no club has come forward with a proposal yet, especially because the Brazilian transfer window is closed.
“I have had meetings with all the top European clubs and always sponsor Nilton as one of the best players in Brazil.”
