Inter striker Marcus Thuram surprised fans and media on Tuesday when he arrived at the train station in Milan for a trip to Empoli with his own pillow.

The Nerazzurri travelled to Tuscany on Tuesday for a Serie A match against Empoli.

They’ll meet the Azzurri at the Stadio Castellani Computergross arena on Wednesday at 18:30 CET (16:30 GMT).

France international Thuram arrived at the Rho Fiera Milano train station bringing his own pillow, a decision that surprised fans and media but which could be explained thanks to an interview that Thuram had released this past February.

“I sleep a lot, around 14 hours per day,”  the France forward told Corriere della Sera.

“But I struggle a bit more after games, especially when we win.”

It may be uncommon, but more and more football players bring their own pillows for away games.

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison said earlier this month that he does precisely the same thing.

“I can’t believe more people don’t take their own pillow,” he said.

“You get to hotels and you get dodgy pillows.”
