New deal but no more goals: Lautaro not scoring for over a month

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez missed a penalty against Milan on Sunday and has not scored for the Beneamata in over a month.

The Nerazzurri officially announced the renewal with the Argentine star on October 28, when the 24-year-old signed a new contract until June 2026 at San Siro.

But his last goal in the Nerazzurri shirt arrived on October 2, in a 2-1 win over Sassuolo, as Simone Inzaghi’s men continue to struggle to keep up the pace from 2021-22 in front of goal.

Official: Lautaro renews with Inter until 2026

Lautaro started the season in excellent fashion, bagging five goals in six league games, but has not scored since.

The Argentina international has not scored any in the four Champions League games and has gone five consecutive games in Serie A without a goal.

Inzaghi hopes to stop the period of decline for the former Racing Club attacker, but the international break doesn’t help the coach.

Lautaro scored in the last game ahead of the international break in October but has not been the same since he returned from his duties in South America.

He has since collected one assist in the 1-0 win over Empoli, but the Nerazzurri need Lautaro back at his best when he returns from the Albiceleste camp this time around.

The poor spell culminated in the Derby della Madonnina, as Lautaro failed when he had the opportunity to send Inter ahead from the penalty spot.

Martinez has yet to complete 90 minutes in Serie A this term and struggled with a slight muscular issue during the last retreat with Argentina.
