Nahitan Nandez’s agent reveals Cagliari have promised to sell the Uruguay midfielder in January and that he ‘would be happy’ to see his client join Napoli.

Nandez was linked with Inter, Tottenham and Leeds over the summer, but Cagliari never reached an agreement over his transfer fee.

Therefore, the 25-year-old remained at the Sardegna Arena and had to apologise to President Tommaso Giulini for pushing for a sale over the summer transfer window.

Now, his agent Pablo Bentancur reveals the 25-year-old has been promised to leave Cagliari in the January transfer window.

“Giulini promised the footballer and me that he would do whatever he could to sell him in January,” Bentancur told CalcioNapoli24 TV as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“Nandez wants to win something, he wants to play in the Champions League. The President gave us his word, Nandez was the most expensive player in the history of Cagliari, but we know the crisis that there was.

“There are two or three clubs that will look for Nandez in January, including Napoli and I’d be happy to see him play with the Azzurri, surely.

“I think Nandez will leave for a lower price-tag than his €36m release clause. The President spoke to Nahitan yesterday and told him that he will lower his price to allow him to leave.”

Cagliari have had a tumultuous start to the season, having sacked their coach Leonardo Semplici after just four games.

His successor Walter Mazzarri collected one point from the opening three Serie A games of the season.

They host newly-promoted Venezia at the Sardegna Arena this evening.

Nandez has played six appearances in Serie A so far this season.
