Inter sent out an inspiring message to its players and supporters after the final whistle of the Champions League final on Saturday evening, insisting that everybody should be proud of the team’s performance.

Inter put on a resilient display against Pep Guardiola’s treble-hunting Manchester City in Istanbul, looking comfortable at the back for vast periods of the game, despite the Premier League winners being named as clear favourites heading into the final.

However, the Nerazzuri’s fate was sealed after Rodri latched on to a loose ball in the area to slot home the game’s eventual winner with pin-point accuracy on the 68th minute.

Shortly after the game had drawn to a close, Inter sent out a message via the club’s official social media channels, which read: “Look up and be proud.”

The Nerazzurri’s instagram page also accompanied the post with the caption: “So proud of our lads.”

The message was a nod not only to the team’s performance in the final, but their campaign as a whole, after Simone Inzaghi’s men overcame a group that included Bayern Munich and Barcelona, before sweeping aside Porto, Benfica and rivals Milan in the knock-out stages to qualify for Saturday night’s final.

Speaking to the press after the game, Inzaghi also insisted that the club will be “back here again in the future.”
