Inter asked Real Betis for German Pezzella and stalled Jeison Murillo to Valencia after Luciano Spalletti complained of a defensive shortage.
“At this moment we are very short in defence, especially as Andrea Ranocchia has a recurring inflammation of the tendon and needs to be evaluated,” Coach Luciano Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia after last night’s 1-0 friendly win over Betis.
“It seems unlikely that Murillo can play next week, though I’ll have to see what the directors tell me tonight and tomorrow.”

Murillo is on the verge of a €13m transfer to Valencia, though that could be delayed until after next weekend’s Serie A opener with Fiorentina.
Spalletti’s message to the club was clear, especially as Ranocchia is likely to head for Southampton if the Saints sell Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
Tuttosport claim Inter took advantage of the Betis friendly to ask after 26-year-old Argentine centre-back Pezzella, who could be registered as an EU player thanks to his Italian ancestry.
He only signed a new contract in May, but has a €17m release clause an Inter hope to get him on loan with option to buy.
