Sources in Italy are reporting that Inter, not for the first time, are interested in making a deal for Liverpool’s Naby Keita, who will become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

Inter have a long-standing interest in the Guinean midfielder, dating back to when Walter Sabatini served as director of football between 2017-18.

According to Calciomercato.com, Inter have been in contact with Keita’s representatives about taking on their client upon the expiry of his Liverpool contract.

The opportunity to land what they consider to be a top-level midfielder on a free transfer is an enticing prospect for the Nerazzurri.

Keita is said to be admired for his technical qualities, tactical flexibility and his ability to cover a number of different roles on the pitch.

Comparisons have been drawn to the deal Inter made for Henrikh Mkhitaryan when he became a free agent after his time with Roma was up at the end of last season.

However, Keita will likely ask for a substantial pay packet, given that he currently earns around €7m per season in England.

Inter are also not the only interested party and will have to fend off competition from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig to land Keita’s signature.
