Inter’s official website has recounted the story of the ‘Hintermann Curse’ which some say stopped Milan winning the Scudetto for 44 years.

Inter’s official website has recounted the story of the ‘Hintermann Curse’ which some say stopped Milan winning the Scudetto for 44 years.
The Nerazzurri were formed in 1908, as a breakaway from Milan who had opted to ban the signing of new foreign players.
A group of Italians and Swiss broke away to form their own club, declaring “it shall be called Internazionale, because we are brothers of the world”.
Among the 15 dissidents were Carlo, Arturo and Enrico Hintermann; and legend has it that they declared that, as long as they lived, Milan would never win the Scudetto again.
After their formation in 1899, the Diavolo had won the Italian title in 1901, 1906 and 1907.
However, after Inter were formed they went 44 years without winning the Scudetto, before finally reclaiming the title in July 1951. The final Hintermann brother had passed away just weeks earlier, according to the Nerazzurri’s site.
The ‘Hintermann Curse’ is one of many supposed curses in football, another of which is Bela Guttman’s hex over Benfica.
The Hungarian Coach was sacked after asking for a pay rise in the wake of the 1962 European Cup win, and reputedly declared “not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever be European champion”.
Since that day, the Portuguese side have appeared in five European Cup or Champions League finals, and three UEFA Cup or Europa League finals, losing all eight.
Hibernian were also allegedly cursed never to win the Scottish Cup after removing a harp symbol, which represented their Irish roots, from their Easter Road stadium in the 1950s.
The harp was reinstated during the 2015-16 season when their new badge, which featured the harp, was put on the West Stand.
At the end of that season, Hibs won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 114 years.
