Tempers began to flare during Inter’s final day of training before the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Benfica at San Siro on Wednesday evening. Here is a recap of how Tuesday went for the Nerazzurri.

The day started with Matteo Darmian, the first member of Inter’s staff to address the media during the customary pre-match conference ahead of the Benfica game this afternoon.

He spoke of the club’s disappointment in the league as of late and his determination to put things right when Benfica visit San Siro on Wednesday.

The former Manchester United defender also identified the 3-3 draw with Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League group stage as his personal highlight of the season.

Inzaghi addressed the media shortly after Darmian and revealed that he was expecting a ‘complicated’ encounter with Benfica, despite holding a two-goal advantage heading into the game.

He expressed his confidence in the squad and reminded his players to keep their focus and “to be good at isolating” themselves.

Inzaghi continued: “be better at what is happening around us, be good and strong, with a cool head and think about the match against Benfica.”

Then, tempers began to flare at the beginning of Inter’s training session this afternoon as Andre Onana and Marcelo Brozovic needed to be separated by teammates after a collision during a warm-up exercise.

Footage was recorded by members of the press, who were entitled to stay and watch the opening few minutes of the session as Inter put in their final preparations for Benfica.

Onana was chasing down a pass towards Brozovic, but collided late and slightly forcefully with the Croatian international, who in turn shouted and began to push the Nerazzurri ‘keeper.

Danilo D’Ambrosio and Romelu Lukaku interjected and were the first on the scene to pull the two arguing Inter players away from each other.

Also noticed in training were the absences of Milan Skriniar and Stfan De Vrij. The former is ruled out of the quarter-final second leg and the Dutchman will almost certainly not be fit enough to start, although could still make the bench.

Kick off at San Siro on Wednesday evening comes at 20.00 UK time.
