Inter are reportedly continuing their low-cost transfer strategy by pursuing free agent Mario Hermoso, who had been in talks with Napoli.

The Nerazzurri have strengthened the squad barely spending a cent so far this summer, securing Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski and FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi for free.

Their only expense has been €13m plus bonuses for Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martinez.

They need a new defender too now, because Tajon Buchanan is out for at least four months after fracturing his tibia on international duty with Canada.

Hermoso on Inter radar

According to Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com, the primary target is Hermoso, a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired on June 30.

The 29-year-old had also been in negotiations with Napoli in recent weeks, but then failed to agree personal terms.

He had also been linked with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

It is reported that while President Beppe Marotta is in favour of the Hermoso swoop, owners Oaktree would prefer a young player that can grow in resale value.

The Spain international does fit the bill, as he is left-footed, can play in central defence or on the right.
