Reports in Italy claim that Carlo Marchetti, a member of Inter‘s board of directors under Suning, is one of the leading candidates to become the new club president.

New Inter owners Oaktree could name Carlo Marchetti as the new club president. Marchetti entered Inter’s board of directors three years ago when the American fund loaned €275m with a 12% interest to Steven Zhang.

As reported by Sport Mediaset, Oaktree directly named Marchetti and  Amedeo Cassarai after the agreement with Suning.

Marchetti is now seen as the leading candidate to become the new Inter President. A notary from Milan, specialised in corporate, financial and banking law, Marchetti will at least retain his role on the board of directors.

The 51-year-old is also a Professor of Comparative Private Law at the University of Milan. His father, Piergaetano Marchetti, is a former President of the media company RCS, now owned by Torino president Urbano Cairo.

Carlo Marchetti knows Inter very well, having been involved with the club since 2021. He’s also an Inter fan.

According to Gazzetta, American and Italian directors at Oaktree seem willing to offer Marchetti the job, while Tuttosport reported last week that club legend Javier Zanetti was a candidate for the role.

Sky Sport Italia reports Oaktree will name new board of directors members and a new president on June 4.
