Inter have presented their project for the new stadium in Rozzano and Assago, which would have a capacity of circa 70,000.

Milan and Inter had hoped to build a new arena at San Siro, but were banned by local authorities from undertaking structural work on the second tier after it was covered by rules aimed to protect structures of important architectural or historic significance.

The two clubs therefore decided to go their separate ways and present individual stadium projects in different areas outside the city of Milan.

Inter have chosen the area of Rozzano, so this afternoon Inter chiefs Alessandro Antonello and Mark van Huuksloot presented their plans to the mayors of Rozzano and Assago.

It had been expected to have a capacity of 50-60,000, but instead was expanded to 70,000, making it close to the current San Siro total of 80,000.

This will be a modern stadium of the kind rarely seen in Italy, which is open seven days a week and not just on match day, with areas set aside for food, drink, entertainment and shopping.

“We formalised the start of a journey that will take us to develop the area identified in Rozzano, and which will also involve the adjoining councils, including Assago,” said corporate CEO Antonello.

“The meeting with both administrations was held in a climate of collaboration.”
