Hakan Calhanoglu is one of the few in the Inter squad to avoid suffering a major drop in form and the club are keen to tie him down to a new contract, reports suggest.

The 28-year-old Turkish midfielder played a decisive role in the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday, scoring the winning goal in the dying minutes of the first half. Calhanoglu has had a good start to the season despite Inter’s poor beginning and will continue to feature for Simone Inzaghi for the foreseeable future.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Calhanoglu’s agent will sit down for contract negotiations with Inter during the World Cup break, which kicks off next month. The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2024, giving the club time, but the goal is to put pen to paper at some point before the 2023-24 campaign.

Calhanoglu was approached by Nottingham Forest, Everton and Newcastle United in the summer but he didn’t consider any of these offers as he’s happy with the Nerazzurri. An agreement will need to be reached with Inter regarding the new deal, which’ll likely see his wages rise from the current €5m net per season.
