Only two points divide Milan and Inter in the Serie A table, but Simone Inzaghi’s men have a game in hand. So, who will win the title this season?

Both Milanese sides won over the weekend. The Nerazzurri got the better of José Mourinho’s Roma on Saturday, while the Rossoneri sealed a 2-1 win at Lazio thanks to a late goal from Sandro Tonali on Sunday night.

Inter will play their game in hand on Wednesday away at Bologna and if they will, they’ll climb to the top of the table with a one-point lead over their city rivals and just four games remaining.

The Nerazzurri seem to have an easier fixture list with games against Udinese (away), Empoli (home), Cagliari (away) and Sampdoria (home) remaining, plus the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus on May 11, between games against Empoli and Cagliari.

The Rossoneri will host Fiorentina next weekend, then travel to Verona and end the season with a home game against Atalanta and a meeting with Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium. Inter seem slightly favourite, but predictions have been changing from week to week in Serie A this season and now there is no more room for mistakes.

  1. Either way, I’m proud the two teams to break the monotony have been Milanese. May the best team win! Inter have the edge in terms of the run-in but Milan‘s advantage could be that we have 2 games less to play overall so fatigue could settle the title. Andiamo!

  2. As a Milan fan: Inter has been the most consistent team, scored the most goals, conceded the fewest goals. Milan doesn’t have a single player with 10 or more goals – it would be almost a miracle and so sweet if they won this.
Regarding the schedule: Cagliari and Sampdoria might sound like easy fixtures but the way the relegation fight is going those two teams might need every point they could get.

  3. Jimmy1138 – Agreed, Inter have been scoring goals for fun and that has been Milan‘s biggest flaw at times this season, the lack of goals and killer instinct in front of goal!

Looking at the course of the season, Milan have arguably performed better against the “bigger” top 6 teams and struggled against the so called “smaller” teams so hopefully that is a positive sign considering the remaining fixtures. But no doubt on paper you would rather Inter’s run in compared to Milan’s! Praying for a fully fit and fired up Ibra for the run in alongside a slip up or 2 from Inter (Empoli and any other) and a first Scudetto in 10 years come May 22!!! Forza Milan 😀

  4. It’s too close to call. The Coppa Final will take away loads of energy from the team and Inter back in February did not cope well with intensive games. I’m edging towards Inter purely on the basis of their squad depth over Milan. What a title race.

  5. Of course Inter are the favorites. They’ve been the favorite from the start of the season, but that just shows how far Milan have come and the miracles Pioli is doing.

On the other hand, one could argue that Milan should be already 5 or 6 points clear at this stage. Milan have been robbed of points this season and that’s a fact.

  6. Inter will likely win, it’s basically in their hands as long as they win all their games or at least match our results. It’s a shame because we were in that position ourselves very recently, but our recent inability to score goals has cost us vital points against teams that, on paper, we should have beat easily. Not to mention the 3 points the ref cost us against Spezia. I feel like we’ve thrown it away, but I guess we’ve done well considering the overall quality of our players compared to Inter. Hopefully if the InvestiCorp takeover does go through, we will get a decent transfer budget and be able to get some quality players in the positions where they’re needed (looking at you, right wing).

  7. @Milan Fan No doubt we have been robbed of a number of points throughout this season with questionable refereeing decisions, I think it is only right that we look in the mirror and reflect on avoidable results also (losing to Fiorentina, Spezia and the sheer number of draws such as Juventus x2, Udinese, Salernitana, Bologna to name a few!) even if we had turned a fraction of those into W’s, this title would have been wrapped up a long time ago and this is down to the poor form in front of goal and as I said on my earlier post, lack of killer instinct!

Nonetheless, the fact the fight is still on is credit to Mister Pioli and the squad and hopefully they can take this fight all the way to the end!!!!

  8. I see loads of Milan fan lamenting about dropped point like other teams aren’t dropping theirs too. Inter drew games they would have won on the brink..

Inter has 5 fixtures in the league and 6 overall compare to milan so fatigue might play a vital role. But I personally think inter winning the league is all dependent on the outcome of their bologna clash.

  9. Obviously, inter has been the favorite from the beginning of the season because they have better squad and they are the defending champions with a lot of experience players but as a Milan fan, I am betting on the inexperience of both coaches to decide the league as we have seen both sides throw away their positions many times which is same for Napoli.. If Milan was up against coaches like Conte or Allegri, I couldn’t have hoped for Milan to overtake them as this point of the season but both coaches have no winning experiences like that so who slips up the less will win and I am hope Milan does… It’s been too long❤

  10. Every neutral knows Milan should have been another 5-7 points ahead at this stage if not for the corruption. If the gap remains less than this, Inter can keep their paper scudetto, just like the ones they won after 2006 (ruining Seria A with their fake trial because they could not win anything for 25 years) . Milan will be champions in every one’s hearts

  11. Milan are playing the best football in the league currently. They should be favourites based on that.

Inters matches vs Cagliari and Samp won’t be easy as these teams are fighting to stay in serie a.

  12. @azzkikr How is Milan playing the best football in the league currently? I know Inter hit a rough patch that lasted over a month, but they’ve recovered since. Inter is playing the best football at the moment, and it’s not even close. Just look at what Inter did to your Milan in Coppa, and how easily they destroyed Roma.
