The former Manchester City Coach managed to keep the Nerazzurri at the top of the standings for much of this campaign before finally tumbling to Fiorentina.

Many were surprised by his success in his first full season back in charge with Inter, and Mancini can see the grounds for scepticism.

“It's always hard to come back to a club where you've already won titles and cups, because you can't do any better,” he told the Guardian, as reported by FcInterNews.

“But when they called me, I took every risk because it's very difficult.

“Inter and Milan have always played in the Champions League, but right now both the clubs have to improve.

“It's never a piece of cake to join a team when the season has already started. I didn't know all of the players and I had to overhaul the entire game system.

“This year we started the season again, with some new players.

“It's going to be a long season, I think all clubs will have problems like ourselves, because it's impossible to win every game.

“The objective is the Champions League, maybe we can think about the Scudetto if we're at the top of the standings after 30 games.

“But right now I think it's hard because Juventus, Napoli and Roma are better equipped than we are.

“Inter won the Champions League five years ago, and I think that's their true level. It's important to return to that competition next year.”
