Inter are reportedly negotiating with Valencia to pay for Joao Cancelo after their option to buy expires on May 31.

The right-back joined the Nerazzurri on loan in the summer, with Geoffrey Kondogbia going the other way on loan with an option to buy.

While the Beneamata do want to sign Cancelo outright, their €35m option to buy is only valid until May 31.

Inter have Financial Fair Play targets to meet, so there’s no way they can pay that money and still break even for the season.

As a result, sporting director Piero Ausilio is in talks with Valencia to pay the money in late June.

Key to the negotiation is Kondogbia, with the Spanish club seeking to remove a clause in his contract in return for the delay in the Cancelo money.

The Nerazzurri are due 25 per cent of any future fee for the Frenchman, but if they agree to remove that they could be granted leeway on Cancelo.
