It took the San Siro outfit a summer of negotiations with Wolfsburg before a reported €19m deal was finally agreed on the penultimate day of the transfer window.

The Croatia international will arrive in Milan after the international break, but warns against Scudetto ambitions.

“The Champions League doesn’t matter and I’m planning to play in it next year with the Nerazzurri,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“When a great club comes after you with so much determination and fights for two months against Wolfsburg’s resistance, the decision becomes very easy.

“I know that Inter are coming off a difficult season, but I believe there’s everything in place for us to do well.

“Marcelo Brozovic has told me many things. Now I want to experience certain situations in first person, I’m sure that not only Brozo’s presence in the squad but also that of other Slavics will help me to settle in.

“It’s not right to set limits, but it would seem a mistake to me to talk about the Scudetto at the start of the season. This isn’t the time to make proclamations, but to work hard.”
