Inter have already failed to convert two penalties this season and are clearly missing Romelu Lukaku’s consistency from the spot.

The Chelsea striker returned to England after two seasons at the Nerazzurri and brought with him a perfect record from the penalty spot.

Lukaku had scored 15 goals from 15 penalties with Inter, who have already missed two in 2021-22.

Simone Inzaghi was asked to explain the penalty hierarchy after Lautaro Martinez missed the second of two penalties in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.

Inzaghi: ‘Inter deserved more than Milan’

The match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw, while Federico Dimarco had already missed one in the 2-2 draw with Atalanta in Serie A Week 6.

After the Milan derby, Inzaghi stressed the hierarchy starts with Lautaro Martinez, who gave away the first penalty to Hakan Calhanoglu against the Rossoneri.

Calhanoglu scored the opening goal against Milan but is normally second in line, according to the tactician, with Dimarco and Ivan Perisic following as third and fourth choice respectively.

Perisic took the penalty against Lazio because Lautaro and Calhanoglu were on the bench, but when the same situation arose against Atalanta, Dimarco was given the chance to score the winner under Inter’s Curva.

But the full-back missed and Atalanta left San Siro with a point.

  1. Still counting on penalties of course… I hope they still have the Telecom Italia exec on their board to smooth things over when people find out they’re still influencing referees 😉
