Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi has undergone surgery on his ankle, just weeks after his planned transfer to Leicester City collapsed.

The 28-year-old had been on the verge of the move to Leicester throughout the January transfer window and there was hope right until the final minutes before the deadline.

However, the two clubs could not agree on terms, as Leicester could only afford him on loan with an option to buy, which was not possible considering his contract with Inter will expire on June 30 anyway.

Sensi has a long history of injury problems and that seems to be continuing even at this stage of his career.

The player has gone under the knife to remove a metal plaque that was placed in his ankle during a previous operation caused by a fracture in November 2022.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sensi is expected to be out of action until the week of March 10-17, so could in theory be ready to participate in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Atletico Madrid.

It is reported this surgery had been scheduled for some time, so even if he had made the move to Leicester City, it still would’ve been necessary.
