Inter Miami have approached Napoli striker Dries Mertens to offer him a different experience in MLS, according to reports in Italy.

Il Mattino newspaper claims that the Major League Soccer side called Mertens and his representatives to suggest he see out his career in the United States of America.

The 34-year-old Belgium international has been at Napoli since leaving PSV Eindhoven in 2013 and his contract runs to June 2022, but also has an option to extend for another year after that.

The report suggests that Napoli would not be against the idea of selling their all-time top scorer, who has 135 goals in 360 appearances for the Partenopei.

Mertens would be able to reunite with his former Napoli teammate Gonzalo Higuain.

However, Inter Miami are struggling badly this season with six consecutive defeats and sit rock bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference table.

The club is co-owned by David Beckham and represents one of the newer MLS franchises.
