Reports suggest that Alessandro Bastoni has suffered a muscle injury and will be sidelined for a number of Inter’s upcoming matches.

The 24-year-old centre back was forced to withdraw from the Italy squad in Coverciano after suffering an injury to his right calf during the training session on Wednesday.

Bastoni is a core part of Simone Inzaghi’s squad in the Lombardy capital, seeing over 3500 minutes of action across 46 total games last season. He recently penned a new long-term contract with Inter, tying him to the club until June 2028.

As detailed by Calciomercato.com, Bastoni underwent a round of medical tests today which confirmed a muscle injury. As such, he will not return to the Italy squad, missing their crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

The Italian defender is also expected to miss Inter’s next three matches against Juventus, Benfica and Napoli, leaving Inzaghi without a key cog in his machine.
