Rather than take a risk on Antonio Cassano, Inter are reportedly inquiring about Udinese starlet Alexis Sanchez.

The Nerazzurri look set to open their wallet in January after a trying start to the season.

However, Inter's chief technical director Marco Branca has so far intimated that the club's No 1 priority is bringing in a centre-back to replace the injured Walter Samuel.

Today's Il Corriere dello Sport believes the treble winners are doing more behind the scenes, though, and claims that they held no fewer than three meetings with Udinese in November.

Branca is said to have asked after Sanchez who has long been touted as one of the most promising footballers in the world.

Sanchez had a decent World Cup in South Africa last summer and has come into his own this season, albeit after a poor start to the campaign under Francesco Guidolin.

Inter are also reportedly interested in Sanchez's teammate Gokhan Inler, the Switzerland international midfielder, who Napoli have frequently expressed their desire to sign.
