“We know Maurizio Zamparini is a difficult President to negotiate with in certain situations, but there’s no doubt we are interested in the lad and he’d do well in our project.”

Inter are likely to be outbid by Juventus and Arsenal, who currently seem to be the main contenders for the Argentine.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Handanovic told reporters after last night’s 3-0 win at Verona that there were “no steps forward” in his contract talks.

The Slovenia international’s deal expires in June 2016 and failure to secure a new contract would see him sold this summer.

“There are parameters to respect and he knows that,” replied Ausilio. “He knows how much Inter respect him and we’ll see what happens over the next few weeks.”

The Corriere dello Sport claims Handanovic is requesting €3m per season rather than the €2.5m on offer.
