Inter legend Luisito Suarez dies aged 88

Inter legend Luisito Suarez, winner of three Serie A titles and two European Cups has died aged 88.

The Nerazzurri announced the death of their former midfielder on Sunday morning.

“The perfect player who, through his talent, inspired generations. Ciao, Luisito,” Inter said on Twitter.

According to Repubblica, the 88-year-old had been ill for some months and died ‘peacefully’ surrounded by his loved ones.

Suarez was born in La Coruna, Spain in 1935 and joined Inter from Barcelona in 1961 for a record fee of 311 billion Italian Lira after winning the Ballon d’Or in 1960.

He played under legendary Inter coach Helenio Herrera and was one of the best midfielders in the history of the Nerazzurri.

During his time at the club, he won three Serie A titles, two European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups. He also became European champion with Spain in 1964.

After nine seasons with the Nerazzurri, he spent the last three years of his playing career at Sampdoria.

The Blucerchiati also played tribute to Suarez on Twitter, writing ‘Ciao Luisito.’
