Andrea Ranocchia has voiced his delight with Inter’s 1-0 victory over Cesena and insists the side are doing better than critics suggest.
The Nerazzurri ended a run of three Serie A matches without a win on Sunday, and their captain believes they are now in a position to build the foundations for an improved run of results.
“It’s a win that we needed, a morale-booster for our upcoming games, which we will deal with renewed enthusiasm,” Ranocchia has told Sky Sport Italia.

“And how is Mazzarri? In football, everything is complicated. Beyond the fuss that is all around us, though, we are competitive on all fronts.
“We are first in our group in the Europa League and we are only a few points from third place in the League.
“We need to give continuity to our results.
“We’re a united group, we are trying, we have the right mix of youth and experience, we are a smart group. I consider myself an expert within this environment and offer advice to the youngsters and newcomers.
“My own form? I’m self-critical, even on the smallest errors, but you have to play well all year. We had two hitches against Cagliari and Fiorentina, but they’ve been the only ones over a year.”
Inter resume League matters with the visit of Sampdoria on Wednesday, and Ranocchia is keen to see the rest of his teammates strive towards creating a strong team spirit.
“It’s important that we haven’t conceded a goal in our last two games. We need to continue along this path set out.
“Sampdoria? I’m not surprised [by their form], as they have a great Coach in Mihajlovic and are a strong group,” the former Bari starlet added.
“It’ll be a tough match, but now we are only thinking about recovering in time for Wednesday. We need a great team mentality and Sampdoria to be afraid of us.”
Ranocchia then touched on Rodrigo Palacio, after the returning forward had won Mauro Icardi’s match-winning penalty against Cesena, the resignation of ex-President Massimo Moratti and his own contract renewal.
“Palacio? He runs like crazy. He gives a hand to us defenders because he always presses. For us, he is essential, even if he is not at his best because of physical problems,” the 26-year-old stated.
“The resignation of Moratti? It doesn’t have an impact [on us], but we're talking about an ultra-successful President who he left his job. He will always remain close to Inter, he was a winner with these colours.
“My renewal? It’s all done, I’m just waiting for the bureaucratic things [to sort themselves out].”
