Inter keeper Yann Sommer has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle while Stefan De Vrij has suffered an adductor injury.

Inter have released fitness updates on Sommer and De Vrij who suffered injuries while on international duty with Switzerland and the Netherlands last week.

“Yann Sommer and Stefan De Vrij underwent medical tests this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. They have revealed that the Swiss goalkeeper has a sprain to the right ankle sprain, which will be assessed day by day for The Swiss goalkeeper,” Inter said in a statement.

“Instead, the Dutch defender will be re-assessed in a few days’ time following a strain in the adductor longus muscle in the right thigh.”

Both players are expected to miss Inter’s next game against Empoli even if, according to Sky Sport Italia correspondent Matteo Barzaghi, Sommer still has a chance to be available against the Tuscans at San Siro on Monday, April 1.

The Italian journalist wrote on X, formerly Twitter that Sommer’s availability depends on how he will recover in the next few days.

On the other hand, De Vrij will surely miss the game against Empoli and return against Udinese or Cagliari.

Simone Inzaghi will be short of options in defence against Empoli if Francesco Acerbi is found guilty of racist abuse towards Napoli‘s Juan Jesus. A FIGC investigation on the matter is over and the sport judge will give his verdict this week.
