Inter in discussions for Bayern goalkeeper Sommer – report

Inter have turned their attentions to the signing of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer in the event that Andre Onana leaves for Manchester United according to reports from Fabrizio Romano on Thursday evening.

Romano suggests that Inter have ‘opened talks’ with Sommer, who is contracted to Bayern until the summer of 2025, about a possible move to San Siro this summer.

Sommer, aged 34, has been on Bayern’s books since January this year, coming in as an emergency replacement for Manuel Neuer, who broke his foot on a skiing holiday in December.

Bayern spent a reported €9m on bringing the experienced ‘keeper in during the January transfer window and included a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for the same fee should an offer come in.

The vast majority of Sommer’s career has been spent with Borussia Moenchengladbach, where he made 272 Bundesliga appearances in an eight-and-a-half year spell between 2014 and 2023.

Sommer has also captained Switzerland on numerous occasions, earning 83 caps since his debut in 2012.

It is understood that Inter are awaiting another improved offer from Manchester United for current no.1 Onana, and according to Romano’s reports, a deal worth a total figure of €55m could be finalised in the early stages of next week.

There have also been strong reports that Inter could bring in 21-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk stopper Anatoliy Trubin if they are to let Onana leave for the Premier League.

Romano writes that Inter could use the money raised from Onana’s sale to bring in Sommer as well as Trubin so that the club have both an immediate and long-term solution to their goalkeeping conundrum.
