Alessandro Buongiorno stood out in Italy’s tense draw with Ukraine, further increasing Inter’s interest in the Torino defender.

The 24-year-old made his second appearance for the national team in their final Euro 2024 qualifier, a game they couldn’t afford to lose in the quest to qualify for next summer’s tournament. Despite some late penalty drama, they ultimately prevailed and secured their second-place finish in Group C.

One of Italy’s revelations of the night was Buongiorno, who looked comfortable and confident alongside Francesco Acerbi in the four-man defence. He was booked after just seven minutes but didn’t let that throw off his game, impressing onlookers.

Calciomercato.com details how Inter have started to plan their next defensive reinforcements and believe Buongiorno may be the perfect addition to Simone Inzaghi’s squad, putting the Torino man ahead of Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini on their wish list.

La Dea had offered Torino around €25m for Buongiorno in the summer but this was rejected, and the defender recently penned a new five-year contract with the club.
