Inter have reportedly come up with an interesting deal to sign defender Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund.

The 27-year-old Swiss centre back’s current deal expires with the Bundesliga outfit next year and for now he doesn’t seem set for a contract renewal, meaning a sale this summer seems likely in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year. Dortmund had hoped to cash in on Akanji but high-profile offers haven’t arrived.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are interested in signing Akanji on a loan deal with a permanence clause attached, whether that be a buy option or obligation to buy clause. The 27-year-old would need to sign a one-year renewal with Dortmund in order to facilitate the deal and the operation could be the perfect solution for all parties.

The two clubs will meet in the coming days and weeks to see if a deal can be ironed out before the end of this month’s transfer window.

Inter have also been linked with a move for Lazio outcast Francesco Acerbi, who would be a cheaper option.
