Inter are prepared to submit a formal offer for young Argentine defender Tomas Palacios, hoping to replicate the success of Yann Aurel Bisseck’s signing just over a year ago.

Palacios currently represents Independiente Rivadavia of the Argentine Primera Division, but he is still owned by parent club Atletico Talleres.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are prepared to offer a fee of €5m to lure the talented centre-back away from South America. They are not the only interested party, as Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have also identified the 21-year-old as an exciting prospect.

Palacios: Inter’s next Bisseck?

A left footed centre-back by trade, Palacios has already drawn comparisons to current Inter and Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni, largely due to their similar frames and styles of play.

Given the circumstances and the stage of Palacios’s career, another Nerazzurri comparison can be made with current starter Yann Aurel Bisseck.

The German centre-back moved to Inter this time last year in a deal worth a total of €7m including bonuses, spread across multiple instalments. Having joined from Danish outfit Aarhus, he too was a relative unknown before moving to San Siro.

Bisseck made 21 appearances in all competitions in 2023-24, but had to wait until the 15th match of the Serie A season for his first league start. His first 14 domestic fixtures resulted in just 12 minutes of action across three cameo appearances.

Though never a guaranteed starter last term, he did begin to feature more regularly in the winter period and towards the end of the season.

Fast forward to this summer, and after a year of coaching under Simone Inzaghi, Bisseck has now started in all five of Inter’s most recent pre-season friendlies and looks set to establish himself as more of a first team regular heading into the new Serie A campaign.

If Inter are able to strike a deal for Palacios, then he could follow a similar pathway.
