Members of Inter’s recruitment team have held talks with the agent of Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata on Tuesday evening, with the player’s agent confirming that discussions ‘went well’ according to reports from Calciomercato.

Calciomercato claims that the first conversations between Inter and Morata’s agent were held over the phone on Monday, before meeting in person on Tuesday evening.

Upon leaving Tuesday’s meeting, Morata’s agent offered a few words to reporters on the street, telling them: “It went well.”

It is no secret that Inter are in the market for a new striker following the club’s decision to abandon their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku in recent days.

It is believed by Calciomercato that Simone Inzaghi would like to add an experienced forward to his ranks, preferably one who is already familiar with Serie A. The 30-year-old Morata, who speaks Italian fluently, ticks all of those boxes following his previous spell with Juventus

Tuesday’s report highlights the fact that Morata’s release clause in his contract with Atleti stands at around €20m, but there is room for negotiations to get that figure pushed down to around €15m.

The Spaniard will, however, command a fairly hefty pay packet, with Inter willing to offer him €5m a year for four seasons. The length of contract could be made up of three guaranteed years with the option of extending for one more.
