Romelu Lukaku apologised to Inter ultras after another shocking miss in the 1-1 draw with Salernitana and they appreciated the gesture. ‘What matters is taking responsibility.’

The striker has been having big problems in recent weeks, with some extraordinary wasted opportunities in a run of just one point from the last four Serie A games.

He fluffed his lines again at the Stadio Arechi this afternoon with a diving header from six yards that somehow thumped the crossbar.

When Antonio Candreva scored the late equaliser and the referee blew the final whistle on a disappointing stalemate, Lukaku was one of the few players who went over to the travelling fans and waved an apology.

The ultras appreciated it, as the Curva Nord group posted this message on their Instagram Stories.

“Facing up to things always, it doesn’t matter if they go well or badly, what matters is taking responsibility. In good fortune and in adversity, we will be there.”

The 1-1 draw means that Inter risk falling out of the top four Serie A places this weekend, while they must also prepare for the Champions League quarter-final against Benfica on Tuesday evening.
