Mazzarri plans to bring his favoured 3-5-2 formation to San Siro this summer after replacing Andrea Stramaccioni.

Kolarov can play as a left-back or on the left side of a five-man midfield.

A cheaper alternative for the right flank is Torino’s 24-year-old D’Ambrosio, who would be available for €3m.

He made 28 Serie A appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

D’Ambrosio joined Toro from Juve Stabia in January 2010.
