According to reports from multiple outlets, Inter have begun discussions to bring in Roma target and Azzurri striker Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham this summer.

Reported by Matteo Moretto of Relevo as well as by Calciomercato.com, the Nerazzurri are holding in-depth talks for Scamacca, who is keen on returning to Italy, despite having only left Sassuolo for the Premier League last summer.

Inter are still working on bringing in another striker to support Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in Simone Inzaghi’s preferred 3-5-2 system following the departure of Edin Dzeko and the breakdown in relations with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku earlier in July.

Scamacca, who was sold by Sassuolo for €45m (£36m) last July, has recently removed the words “West Ham player” from his social media bios, leading many to believe that an exit is just around the corner.

Roma, who are also in need of a striker after the long-term injury to Tammy Abraham, have also been pushing to bring Scamacca to the Stadio Olimpico and according to previous reports, had reached a personal agreement with the player.

Giallorossi GM Tiago Pinto had also been expected to fly to London to close the deal next week, although Inter’s interest could make life considerably more difficult.

Jose Mourinho and his team were hoping to bring Scamacca in on loan with a buy-out clause that would becomes mandatory based on appearances and Champions League qualification, but Calciomercato report that West Ham are not entirely convinced by the proposal.

The Italian outlet does go on to state that Inter are in a better position to offer West Ham a more suitable deal, which could put them ahead of Roma in the race to sign Scamacca.
