Inter director Piero Ausilio has revealed which striker he would rather have among the Nerazzurri’s ranks out of current starter Marcus Thuram and last season’s loanee and current Roma-man Romelu Lukaku.

Ausilio has recently been awarded with the Spiga d’Oro award for 2023, a prize celebrating individuals or companies who have excelled in their contributions to society.

Shortly after receiving his award, Ausilio spoke to Il Pertini Radio, reported via La Gazzetta dello Sport, to discuss a number of Inter-related topics, including the club’s current striking options.

When asked whether he would have preferred to have kept Romelu Lukaku, who eventually joined Roma on loan from Chelsea in the summer, on board for another season, his answer was a firm no.

“Do you know who I would choose between Thuram and Lukaku?,” he asked. “My answer is much simpler than the one given by (Beppe) Marotta.

“I would say absolutely Thuram, because he is a lad who wanted to join Inter, he chose us just as much as we chose him.”

He continued: “Two years ago, we had reached an agreement with his club (Borussia Moenchengladbach), but then he got injured a couple of days after signing off on the deal. We didn’t forget about him though and clearly he didn’t forget about us either.

“And, when other clubs became interested, even if they deny ever having an interest, he chose Inter and Inter chose him.”
