Inter would only be expected to pay €4m of his salary, which is set at €14m per year net, with the rest covered by Manchester United.

It should be noted that the Nerazzurri wouldn’t start paying until September, so the split on the contract would realistically be €4m out of €12m net.

The English papers maintain Inter are paying 50 per cent of the salary, but Italian media remain adamant it won't be that even.

Once the Chile international signs for Inter in 2020-21, the wages will move to €6-6.5m per season.

That is still a significant pay cut that Alexis is accepting in order to end his Old Trafford nightmare and return to Serie A, where he first shot to fame with Udinese.

Sanchez was not even on the bench for this evening’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 30-year-old is widely expected to fly in to Milan either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, where he’ll undergo a medical and sign the paperwork.
