Matteo Darmian is a product of Milan academy but says he supported Inter as a kid and warns the Rossoneri ahead of Sunday’s Derby Della Madonnina.

The Italy international scored the winner in Tuesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final against Atalanta at San Siro.

He then released an interview with DAZN going through his career and looking to Sunday’s derby against Milan.

“We’ve always breathed football in my family, especially my father, who was a Fiorentina fan,” he said.

“I used to watch Gabriel Omar Batistuta and Manuel Rui Costa, but I remained tied to the Nerazzurri colours growing up. To play for the club I supported as a kid is fantastic and gives me extra motivation to do well.

“I remember that before the first trial with Milan, I was asked to fill in a survey and one of the questions was about my favourite player,” continued the experienced defender.

“I wrote Clarence Seedorf who was an Inter player at that time. I started as a midfielder, but then I moved to defence and I could learn from legends such as Alessandro Nesta.

“The derby is always a special game, a different match. It’s THE game, looking at it from the fans’ perspective, the atmosphere is different and unique during the days before the match.”

Inter won the Supercoppa against Milan less than two weeks ago but had lost the first Serie A derby of the season as well as a key clash with their city rivals in February 2022 which was one of the turning points in Milan’s title-winning campaign.

“It was a tricky one, we were not able to keep the lead and now we want to get revenge,” said Darmian.

“Not only for that game but also for the one in the Girone D’Andata. We want to make up for it.”
