Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni will miss Sunday’s Serie A clash against Juventus due to a muscle injury and won’t be available for Italy during the international break.

The Italian centre-back was subbed off in the second half of Tuesday’s Champions League match with Porto at the Estadio do Dragao and exams undergone on Thursday morning highlighted a flexor injury.

“Alessandro Bastoni underwent assessment this morning at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano after injury in Porto,” Inter said in a statement.

“The examinations showed a sprain to the left thigh muscle. His condition will be re-evaluated next week.”

This means the 23-year-old won’t be available on Sunday when Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus visit the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Meazza.

Bastoni won’t be available for Italy either. The Azzurri will face England and Malta in the opening Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures next week.

Bastoni is a regular starter at the Stadio Meazza having made 30 appearances across all competitions this season. Milan Skriniar could start against Juventus after returning from an injury in Tuesday’s Champions League match with Porto.

Bastoni joined Inter from Atalanta in a €30m deal in 2017 and has played 148 games with the Benamata, scoring three goals.
